A wedding ring or wedding band is a metal ring indicating the wearer is married. Depending on the local culture, it is worn on the base of the right or the left ring finger. The custom of wearing such a ring has spread widely beyond its origin in Europe.

The Garnet Star Nebula in Ha

This was my second time out with my new astronomy camera, the QHY8L. My fifteenth night imaging.

I'm very pleased with how this image has turned out, especially after the recent difficulties I've had with my kit.

The Garnet Star (the big one) was called the Garnet Star as it is a red/garnet colour. However this image was taken through a filter which blocks out all light except for the narrow +/- 7nm around the Ha wavelength. This means that the image captures only one "strip" of colour - that of the excited Hydrogen gas cloud. That's why the garnet star is white, rather than garnet red.

Garnet & Andalusite

Pebbles and rocks on Killiney Beach near Whiterocks contain the minerals Garnet and Andalusite, which formed from great heat from the Leinster Granite. The minerals are over 440 million years old. The rock they are in is known as a Mica Schist. I am leading a trip to Killiney for the Irish Geological Association so I needed to get some field information for my field notes.
